The Absolute Best Men's Hair Style for YOUR head shape

Updated: Apr 8, 2022

This is Jordian's Tampa Bay Barbers guide to the best hairstyles for your face shape

We've rounded up the best haircuts for round faces, long or rectangular faces, square faces, heart-shaped faces, diamond-shaped faces, and triangle-shaped faces, and you can't have one of each face.

To determine which hairstyle suits your face shape, find a mirror and compare your face to the male face shapes.

If you have a round face shape, consider one of these haircuts to lend it some definition.

If you've got a round face shape, think square. A pompadour or a flat top with tight sides will help you create the illusion of structure and a front fringe will help you slim your jawline.

Long faces must have a well-proportioned style that avoids taking the sides too short, keeping the top hair longer than the sides, and refraining from pairing with a Duck Dynasty beard.

A classic short back and sides and slightly longer on top style with a side-swept parting is best for a man with an oval face shape. Avoid a forward fringe and ditch the beard.

Consider a square face shape, characterized by a sharp jawline and even proportions. It's great for most haircuts, but the shorter you go, the more you look like you've just been conscripted.

A heart-shaped face is wide in the forehead and temples, gradually narrowing to a point at the chin. A beard helps the heart shape gain fullness in the lower half of the head.

The diamond face shape is one of the rarer face shapes for men. Hairstyles that add width in the forehead and chin area work best, and long hairstyles accentuating the diamond's bone structure are great.

Due to its narrow forehead and wide jawline, a triangle-shaped face requires volume. Longer, nose-length haircuts with fuller sides work to add depth.

Measure your forehead, cheekbones, jawline and face length, and then compare these measurements to the seven main profiles to find the one that fits your face.

  • Oval: Face length is greater than the width of the cheekbones, and forehead is greater than the jawline. The angle of the jaw is rounded rather than sharp.

  • Long: Face length is the greatest measurement. Forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.

  • Triangular: Jawline measures greater than cheekbones, which measure larger than the forehead.

  • Round: Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than the forehead and jawline, which also have a similar measurement. The angle of the jaw is soft and much less defined.

  • Heart: Forehead measures greater than the cheekbones and jawline. The chin is pointed.

  • Square: All measurements are fairly similar. The angle of the jaw is sharp rather than rounded.

  • Diamond: Face length measures largest. Then, in descending order: cheekbones, forehead, and smallest is jawline. The chin is pointed.

I would say the best judge of your face shape would come from an experienced and trained barber, that could then suggest what haircut would be the best from you. In some situation there can be combo face shape as well.

The whole point of knowing your face shape is that so you can pick a high quality haircut that looks the best for you and will make you the most attractive!
